I've made a little headway with the Ribbon Table project: I've decided on the color/material pallet. I knew it was going to be made from plywood, but there's an art to making plywood furniture look nice. One approach to this is to paint it, but this always feels like cheating (plus then I'd have to choose a color.) Another approach is staining and sealing. While this is usually my approach for making cheap wood look more expensive, I get really impatient with this process. Pre-finished plywood available at casework suppliers, but for this project, I decided to laminate an outer layer to the wood. While looking around my scrap materials, I found just the thing. Peel and stick Cork which is usually used as a drawer liner.
I'm pretty excited to make a table out of this assembly, and I think it will look quite unique. I made a sample to test both peel and stick as well as spray adhesive options, and found that the peel and stick is actually more reliable.
