I finally built the side table I'd designed to go between my bed and reading chair. I call it the "Ribbon Table" because the design features one, continuous band of wood that folds back on itself. It's specifically designed for the 2 different heights of my bed and reading chair. I brought out the "ribbon" idea as much as possible by emphasizing the striated edge of plywood, by mitering the edges, and by wrapping the plywood surfaces with sheets of peel-and-stick cork.
The build was both easy and fun. For the plywood cuts, I used my company's shop which made the cutting super simple and clean. Those miters just wouldn't have been possible at my home setup, which is a tedious combination of circular saw and clamped guides. The cork wrap was fun as well, since I usually get impatient with the time required to make a stain/seal look nice, the cork wrap was a satisfying new approach.
I'm pleased with the design too. It maintains a strong visual concept while also satisfying the specific needs of both bedside and reading-side table. I think one area that could use further development: because I stuck to the original concept so closely, the appearance is a little blocky, and might benefit from softening the sharp corners or introducing some sort of curves.
Nice job on the table, the video and the soundtrack.
