After months of exhausting construction work. I'd finally finished building out my home. Unfortunately, this didn't include lights in an area downstairs that was going to become a workshop space. So, for the inaugural first project of that workshop, I decided to make some lamp shades. On the plus side, the ceiling does have a grid of switched outlets and spare Ikea plug-in Pendant fixtures. All I needed was some nice lamp shades.
I kept the design of the shades dead simple so I could spend most of my time focusing on the details of construction. I also tested every step of the process individually before starting on the lamps themselves. If any detail wasn't going to work out, I wanted the flexibility to adapt the whole design if needed. I'll post separately about this "R&D" phase of the design. The gist of it is to make some PVC hoops with a cetral disk on one of them. Then glue two sheets of paper around the border and attach to a pendant light fixture. Easy peasy!
I've also been getting deeper and deeper into the world of DIY youtube channels, and realized I hadn't made a video in a while. Since I was planning on making several of these lamps, I decided to film the process once I had it all figured out. It's a very satisfying way to showcase my work, so I'd like to continue trying to work out the kinks (sit still white balance!) on future projects. That being said, making video's does take a bit longer than a normal post. Hope you enjoy! Music by Kevin MacLeod
Why did it look like you had to drill out one end of the PVC?
Needed a perfect 1/4″ for the dowel, the PVC was more like 3/16″
