Ok, so I don't actually know if this counts as UX per se, but lately I've been thinking a lot about how my website is organized. I use WordPress to manage and write posts, and for the most part I enjoy the interface and structure of it. However, there are some minor discrepancies with how WordPress organizes content and how I would want it organized.
WordPress generally organizes content as a series of posts, which can be assigned to categories. This is all well and good with WordPress as a blogging tool. There is also the option to enable a separate post-like format called "Projects" for people like me, who use their websites to showcase projects. These function the same as posts, but are simply given their own designation, and their own separate categories. As far as I know there can be no crossover between the two: a Post cannot also be a Project, nor could a Project contain a Post.
My ideal website would be structured a little differently: Posts would appear independently on the front-page blog, as they do now, but ideally, I would then be able to group them together into respective "Projects," which are then organized by Categories.
Currently, when looking at a category, every Post in the Category is displayed, even multiple Posts about the same project. If it were possible, I'd prefer to see only one entry per Project in the appropriate Category. Then when clicking through to the Project, I could see each of the Post entries, which usually show the process behind each project.
If my recent change of domain name has taught me anything it's that I'm not well equipped to make this ideal website reality. Nonetheless, I think it's a good exercise for me to clearly lay out the vision I would want to work towards relative to way my website is currently organized.
